What’s worse than a bad haircut? An untamed beard. But, it's okay, we hear your pleas for advice on the best beard trimmer now that the pandemic is looming over our fuzzy heads.

Let's acknowledge how difficult it is for many of us to get to any barber, let alone one who gets our beard trim right more times than not. A large number of men out there need to jump in the deep end and get busy trimming their own beards. But with which trimmer exactly?
Although there are many trimmers on the market - the sheer number is enough to make your head spin. To narrow it down we’ve asked some experts to help us out with their favorite trimmer and what makes them so good.
For those in quarantine or who prefer to keep close contact with others to an absolute minimum, read on for a professional’s rundown on how to trim your own beard.
What to Look For in a Trimmer
Look for a cordless trimmer that has multi capabilities with at least two hours of run time. The ability to use it wet or dry is always an added plus. Another tip is cheap isn't always best. A fair price range is $60-$100.
Make sure the multi-use trimmer has comb attachments because you'll need it to keep that beard and mustache tamed.
As for a clipper, the same principles apply but personally I would use a corded clipper. You'll get greater longevity from a clipper with this approach.

Best Beard Trimmers According to Experts
Gillette All-Purpose Styler
Newbies the Gillette Styler is for you. I recommend you start with a smaller investment, in case you’re unsure of how long you will rock your face fur. For this, Gillette has an all-in-one detailer that can trim to four different lengths, or you can swap in a Fusion5 blade for a skin-tight shave (perfect for those neck and cheek trims). Bonus: it's waterproof.

The Gillette Styler to keep your beard clean at home. I'm a barber and tell clients who want to maintain their looks in between cuts to use the Styler. The great thing about it is that it’s small and has everything you need in one razor. You can trim your beard, then edge up and finish with a shave looking like you just came out of the barbershop! The Gillette Styler is an affordable option for guys to keep their looks maintained during this time when they can’t visit their barber. This three-in-one tool allows men to trim, edge and shave to achieve any look that fits their style.

Wahl Professional Cordless Magic Clip
The Wahl Cordless Magic Clip is one of my favorite cordless tools out now. It’s important to use a clipper with enough power to cut your facial hair consistently, but also one that’s light enough to be able to maneuver around your beard easily by hand especially for coarser beards.

If you are looking for clippers the best clippers would be the Wahl Cordless. I love the weight and these will last you a lifetime. Wahl has all sorts of prices for different budgets. The cordless is my favorite but if you want a more budget-friendly option then go for one with the cord on - they're equally as good in quality.

Andis Professional T-Outliner Beard and Hair Trimmer
The Andis Beard and Hair Trimmer is my favorite for trimming and shaping! Ask any barber for his or her favorite beard trimmer, and I bet they recommend Andis. That's because Andis gives serious hedge-trimming power. If you prefer straight and clean lines along with your beard and mustache, use this stainless-steel T-trimmer, you can always shift the gear when you shift up the guard for longer maintenance.

The best beard trimmer I’ve used is the Andis Slimline Pro T-blade Trimmer, hands down. The blade has so many traits - where do I start! It comfortably fits in your hand, the design of the blade allows for versatile freehand work, it’s cordless, has a long-lasting battery, plus the design is sleek and handsome!

How to Trim a Beard
Steps to Trim Your Own Beard
- Comb the beard out. If necessary, smooth out the beard with a blow dryer.
- When cutting I tend to switch to a Baxter comb for a relaxed and painless approach.
- Oil daily to nourish, moisturize and stay dapper. Depending on the length of the beard I would use 3-5 drops on short to mid-length beards and on long beards 8-10 drops.
- Lastly, let your gentlemen know combing is essential for proper growth and overall health of their beard.

Trimming Tips
One tip that I give guys for beard trimming is to always start with the highest guard and then keep going lower until you get to the length you desire.

Trimming/shaving against the direction of hair growth can result in eliminating too much hair and is a very common mistake if you’re not trying to achieve a drastic change.

Trimming your beard is not the easiest thing in the world to do but if you practice enough you can perfect it, just be careful.
