Celebrity groomer Natalia Bruschi has partnered with Acqua di Parma this awards season to debut the brand’s NEW Barbiere collection on client Bradley Cooper for the Oscars Sunday, February 24, 2019. Here's a Q&A with Natalia on how she achieves Bradley’s red carpet looks.
Do you have any at home/self-care suggestions for clients to help prep their skin in the week before a big event like the Oscars? i.e., facial, refrain from shaving, peel or exfoliate?
Ahead of a big event, I always tell clients to minimize alcohol intake and maximize water intake the week before.
It’s important to treat your body well ahead of time with plenty of sleep and exercise to help blood circulation. For facial treatments, I recommend getting a professional facial or laser treatments 1 – 10 days before the big event depending on skin sensitivity.
It helps to renew the skin by exfoliating and removing dead skin cells from the surface. You also can’t do enough masking. I recommend hydrating masks 2 – 3 times a week leading up to the event and a clay mask the night before.
How did you prep Bradley’s skin on the day of the Oscars or another big event?
I prepped the skin using the Acqua di Parma Barbiere Face Scrub, followed by the Acqua di Parma Barbiere Clay Face Mask. I had him leave it on for 10 minutes.
For hydration, I use the Acqua di Parma Barbiere Moisturizing Face Cream and Acqua di Parma Barbiere Moisturizing Eye Cream. The soothing roller ball on the end of the Eye Cream helps to sooth any puffiness and minimize dark circles, which was something Bradley enjoyed.
I also use the Jillian Dempsey Gold Bar over the Moisturizing Face Cream for a facial massage and increased definition.
What works well when he has a stubble or a beard?
I use the same hydrating Acqua di Parma facial products (Moisturizing Face Cream and Moisturizing Eye Cream), but swap in the Acqua di Parma Beard Serum. It absorbs beautifully into the skin and smells so good. I love using excess product on neck and even in the hair for shine.
What are the must-have grooming products that every man should own?
Every man should own face wash, face scrub, a good, quality razor and shaving cream. He should also own a facial moisturizer, eye cream, body lotion and cologne, or scented oils if he does not like cologne.
A hair styling product is essential, along with shampoo, and maybe conditioner, depending on his hair type.
How frequently would you recommend someone with Bradley’s skin type use the Acqua di Parma mask?
I recommend using the Acqua di Parma Clay Face Mask once a week leading up to an event, as well as the night before and even day of the event. For the SAG Awards, Bradley used the Clay Mask the same day.
What shaving tools do you think every man should own?
Every man should a pair of clippers or trimmers for face and body hair. A good quality razor is a must-have.
When you’re creating a red carpet look for a client does their suit or wardrobe play a role?
Their suit or wardrobe definitely plays a role in how they are groomed. If it’s a daytime event, I’ll keep the hair loose, use limited product, and create something more fun and playful.
If it’s an evening event and he has a suit on, I’ll tighten up the look by adding more product so it’s a bit more polished. For a black tie event, I’ll create something more sleek.
